⚖ Compare

The F512 M—the "M" standing for Modificata—was the final evolution of the Testarossa. It was shown in Paris in October 1994 and is recognizable by its front end: instead of pop-up headlights, two fixed, angular lighting units sit up front, while the taillights at the rear are round. The 4.9-liter flat engine produces 324 kW; thanks to titanium connecting rods and a new crankshaft, it revs up to 7500/min. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h. It was the last Ferrari with a flat engine; 501 units were built before the front-engine 550 Maranello took over in 1996.

Good to know

  • Of the 501 cars built, 75 were destined for North America; an equal number were built in right-hand drive.
  • Titanium connecting rods and a new crankshaft saved a combined 7.26 kg and allowed for a 7500 rpm rev limiter.
  • Carbon bucket seats were a no-cost option; they weighed just 14.97 kg.
  • Pininfarina and Ferrari flags adorn the dashboard.

Engine and performance

The flat-12 displaces 4943 cm³, features four valves per cylinder and dry-sump lubrication, with a compression ratio of 10.40:1. Maximum torque is 500 Nm at 5500 rpm, while the 324 kW is reached at 6750 rpm. It accelerates to 161 km/h in 10.2 seconds, covering the standing quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds and the standing kilometer in 22.7 seconds.

Exterior and interior

The pop-up headlights were replaced by two fixed rectangular units, while the taillights are round and no longer hidden behind black louvers as on the Testarossa and 512 TR; the bumpers were given smoother styling. The front hood features twin NACA ducts. Inside, changes over the 512 TR were minor: a chrome shift knob, drilled aluminum pedals, and standard air conditioning.

Wheels and delivery

The 18-inch wheels measure 8 inches wide at the front and 10.5 inches at the rear, fitted with Pirelli P Zero tires in 235/40 ZR 18 and 295/35 ZR 18. Brake discs measure 315 mm front and 310 mm rear. The final car was completed in early 1996. All examples sold in the US were 1995 model year; none were sold new into Canada.
