The Ferrari F138 competed in Formula 1 in 2013. Its name combines the year with the number of cylinders, marking the final year of V8 engines before turbocharged V6 engines followed from 2014. Right from the start of the season, it was significantly more competitive than the F2012: in Australia, Alonso finished second and Massa fourth. A vanity panel conceals the stepped nose, and the 2.4-liter V8 produces around 750 PS. The drivers were Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, for whom it was the final season at Ferrari; overall, the car achieved 2 wins and 10 podium finishes.

Good to know
- Because the wind tunnel in Maranello was undergoing renovations, Ferrari developed the aerodynamics of the F138 at the Toyota Motorsport facility in Cologne-Marsdorf.
- Originally, the car was to be called the F2013; internally, it was designated under project number 664.
- In Spain, Alonso overtook Räikkönen and Hamilton as early as turn three of the first lap and subsequently dominated the race.
- In Monaco, Massa was unable to participate in qualifying because his car was not repaired in time following an accident; he started from 23rd place.

Engineering and development
The chassis was designed by Pat Fry, Nikolas Tombazis, and Loic Bigois; Luca Marmorini headed engine and electronics development, and Simone Resta served as chief designer. The F138 is an evolution of the F2012: Ferrari focused primarily on weight distribution and lighter individual components. The pylons between the front wing and nose were redesigned, and the sidepods and air intake above the cockpit were also altered. Brembo supplied the brakes, OZ Racing the wheels, and Pirelli the tires. In parallel, the team was already working on the car for 2014.
Victories in China and Spain
Ferrari brought upgrades to China; Alonso started from third place and passed Hamilton for the lead within the first five laps. He held it to the finish to secure the first win of the season for the F138, while Massa finished sixth. In Spain, Ferrari relied on a four-stop strategy. Alonso passed Räikkönen and Hamilton after the start, took the win, and Massa finished third.
Setbacks
In Malaysia, Massa and Alonso qualified in 2nd and 3rd positions in the rain. However, Alonso damaged his front wing after minor contact with Vettel; at the start of the second lap, the wing failed on the back straight, sending Alonso into the gravel. In Bahrain, an intermittently malfunctioning DRS dropped him to 8th place, while Massa finished 15th after suffering two punctures.
