Phil Hill was an American racing driver who signed with Enzo Ferrari's team in 1956. In 1958, together with Belgian Olivier Gendebien, he became the first native-born American to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans; two further Le Mans victories in Ferraris followed in 1961 and 1962. From 1959, he drove full-time for Ferrari's Formula 1 team, and in 1961 he became World Champion by one point over Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, becoming the first American to do so. He also won the 12 Hours of Sebring three times in a Ferrari.
