The Ferrari 499P is a Le Mans Hypercar with which the Scuderia has competed in the World Endurance Championship since 2023; it marks the return of a factory prototype after 50 years. In its first appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and James Calado won the race, securing Ferrari's first overall victory there since 1965. In 2024, another win followed with Fuoco, Molina, and Nielsen. It is powered by a 2992 cm³ 120° twin-turbo V6; in 2025, it claimed both the manufacturers' and drivers' WEC titles.

Good to know

  • The name follows Ferrari's tradition of referencing the displacement per cylinder: 499 cm³; the P stands for prototype.
  • One of the cars raced under car number 50 as a tribute to 50 years without a factory prototype contending for the overall Le Mans win.
  • The 2023 victory ended Toyota Gazoo Racing's streak of five Le Mans wins.
  • In 2025, the AF Corse number 83 car won with Kubica, Ye, and Hanson—Ferrari's third consecutive Le Mans victory.

Origins

In February 2021, executive management announced the return to sports car racing, coming as a major surprise to the motorsport world. At the end of 1973, the Scuderia had ended its sports car program; the last notable result had been second place by Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman in the 312PB at Watkins Glen in 1973. The 333SP built by Michelotto Engineering was never run as a factory effort. The 499P was unveiled in October 2022 at the Finali Mondiali, the season finale of the Challenge series.

Technical details

The V6 is a new development: it shares its architecture with the 296, but acts as a load-bearing element of the vehicle structure rather than being suspended from a subframe as in the road car. The chassis is manufactured by Dallara. An electric motor on the front axle delivers 200 kW above 190 km/h, as prescribed by the regulations; it is powered by a 900 V battery that is charged by Ferrari's energy recovery system. According to Ferdinando Cannizzo, a V6 is small, light, and compact, requiring no compromises.

Le Mans

In their first start in 2023, Giovinazzi, Pier Guidi, and Calado took victory and broke Toyota's winning streak. In 2024, Ferrari claimed its eleventh overall victory at Le Mans—its second in a row—with car number 50 (Fuoco, Molina, Nielsen); car number 51 finished third. In 2025, the number 83 car won with Kubica, Ye, and Hanson, while number 51 finished third and number 50 fourth.

499P Modificata

The 499P Modificata was unveiled at the 2023 Finali Mondiali to celebrate that year's Le Mans victory. It is a non-competitive, unlimited track-only version. On March 18, 2024, it took part in the first event of the Sport Prototipi Clienti program at Mugello.
