⚖ Compare

The Ferrari 412 P was the customer version of the famous 330 P3, built for independent teams such as NART, Scuderia Filipinetti, Francorchamps, and Maranello Concessionaires. Instead of the works car's Lucas fuel injection, it received carbureted engines; Ferrari wanted to ensure that customers could score points, but not beat the factory cars. Two cars were built from the start as 412 P (0850 and 0854), while the others were converted P3s. Due to strikes, only three of the five P3 chassis were completed as finished cars in 1966.

Good to know

  • Surviving 412 P cars are worth about 35 to 45 million US dollars today, according to the buyer's guide in Cavallino Magazine.
  • In 1968, the 412 P was not allowed to start in the World Sportscar Championship: too large for Group 6, too few units for Group 4 (50 units required). Ferrari boycotted the series for a year.
  • Due to strikes, only three of the five P3 chassis were completed as finished cars in 1966; the remaining two became the 412 P 0850 and 0854 in 1967.
  • The 412 P 0854 burned out almost completely during a 1969 race in East London, South Africa; today it belongs to François Perrodo.

Concept

The 412 P was a P3 chassis with a P3 engine, only with Weber carburetors instead of Lucas fuel injection and with the suspension of the P4. The block was the same 4-liter block as in the P3 and differed from the block of the P4. The reduction in output was deliberate: Customers were meant to score points, but not beat the factory cars. Two cars were 412 P from the start (0850 and 0854), while numbers 0844 and 0848 were originally factory P3s.

The individual cars

0844 was converted by the factory into a customer P3/412 P, then by Ferrari and NART into an open 330 Can-Am; today it resides in Germany once again as a 412 P Berlinetta. 0848 also went from the factory to a customer and is now in Switzerland. 0850 was once converted into a Spyder for the road, but later returned to a Berlinetta; the Ferrari Classiche restoration was completed in 2017. 0854 was rebuilt several times after the fire and is today a Berlinetta once again.
